Dance Rehearsals!

We're busy rehearsing for our final presentation on May 18th here at Echo Mountain. Last week we built props out of carboard. We had a lot of fun painting them outside.

This week we've been rehearsing the movement parts of our program. Take a look at these pictures from our practice!

Echo Mountain's Play Review

On Wed, March 24 our class headed over to Paradise Valley High School to see their production of Aladdin. We LOVED it! We definitely laughed and clapped a lot. On the bus ride home, we had a discussion about the show, talking about the parts we liked and analyzing some of the more dazzling effects to see if we could figure out how they were accomplished. We came up with some pretty cool theories about how Prince Ali’s elephant danced around the stage. Our class enjoyed the production so much, many of the students wanted to see it again. One student said, “I liked the play better than the movie!”

We’re on spring break now, and the teachers of the Echo Mountain Drama Class are busy organizing all the incredible work we’ve done in class over the year into a play we can present to our family and friends at the end of the year!

Echo Mountain's Poetry

Our class has been busy stretching our creativity muscles and preparing material for our final performance. Right now we’re working on movement, and we can’t wait to show you the dance we’ve created out of activities we enjoy. For the time being, however, we’d love to share some of our poetry with you! Check out these poems we wrote in class:

A violet’s a flower that’s pretty
That you can find in the city
Here is a clue
They are always blue
And that’s the name of my kitty!

Bunnies are cute and they’re fluffy
Their fur is fuzzy and puffy
They are really jumpy
And never grumpy
And we call him Tuffy.

My special puppy is cute
She is like the button mute
She eats less than a dog
She eats like a log
She looks like a lot of loot.

Echo Mountain is moving forward!

As you can see, here at Echo Mountain we’ve been writing some fabulous poetry! We’re stretching our creative writing muscles with I Am poems, Cinquains, and Limericks. We’re really proud of the results and can’t wait to share them with you in our class play, What Matters to Me, at the end of the term.

Having successfully finished our poetry unit, we’ve moved on to movement. We’re having a lot of fun exploring all the different ways we can create characters with our bodies. We’re practicing moving through different types of obstacles, moving to different types of music, even creating machines and inventions with movement and sound. We’re having a blast and we can’t wait to show you all the wonderful things we’ve created.

What's Up at Echo Mountain?

Lots of fun is going on here, that’s what! We’re writing more and more of our class play every day. We’re having a blast exploring what matters to us, learning new games, creating wonderful art, poetry, and scripts, and playing together in class.

We have been exploring objects that are meaningful to us and our families. We even made origami treasure boxes to keep our special objects in! Right now we’re writing poetry about ourselves and our families, and our class can’t wait to show off our poetry skills.

Last week in class, we presented the puppet plays that we’ve been working on, and they were fantastic! We even video-taped them so that we can share them with our friends and families.

Welcome Back!

We've started the New Year off well with 4 new students in class and a lot of fun new activities! We have started working on creating our class play, "What Matters to Me," and are looking forward to presenting it at the end of class.

Over the last few classes, we have been exploring what matters to us. We have had some great discussions about the people and things that matter to us in our lives. We just finished a puppet art project, creating puppets of ourselves and the people that are important to us, and the students have even written their own puppet shows! We can't wait to present our puppet shows in class in February.

We're having a great time so far and we have a lot to look forward to!
